His firstborn daughter,

DR. COBOS WAS A VISIONARY. HIS GREATEST VISION WAS THAT THE FOLKLORE OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO AND SOUTHERN COLORADO, THAT HE BECAME ENAMORED WITH IN 1927 AS A STUDENT AT MENAUL HIGH SCHOOL, WOULD ONE DAY BECOME EXTINCT AS THE HISPANIC GENERATIONS BECAME MORE ASSIMILATED INTO MAINSTREAM AMERICA. HIS DREAM WAS TO COLLECT AND PRESERVE THAT FOLKLORE FOR POSTERITY. HE ACCOMPLISHED HIS DREAM BECAUSE HE LOVED PEOPLE--ALL PEOPLE; FROM EVERY WALK OF LIFE. PEOPLE RESPONDED TO HIS SINCERITY AND HE MADE FRIENDS WHERE EVER HE WENT. HE WAS FLUENT IN SPANISH, AND HE KNEW THE NUANCES OF POLITENESS, MANNERS, AND CUSTOMS OF HISPANIC CULTURE. WHEN HIS CHARM AND PERSONALITY WERE NOT ENOUGH TO GAIN HOSPITALITY INTO THE HOMES OF THE VILLAGERS, HE WAS WILLING TO WORK FOR THE PRIVILEGE. HE CHOPPED WOOD, CAUGHT AND BEHEADED CHICKENS, PLASTERED AND PAINTED ADOBE HOMES. HE PUT HIS WHOLE HEART, BODY, AND SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS OF HIS LIFE INTO THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF HIS DREAM. HE DONATED THE MAJORITY OF HIS COLLECTION TO THE ARCHIVES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO WITH THE STIPULATION THAT NONE OF IT BE MADE PUBLIC OR USED IN ANY WAY UNTIL AFTER HIS DEATH. BECAUSE HE PASSED AWAY IN HIS SLEEP, NOVEMBER 22, 2010, WE WILL NOW DISCOVER WHAT TREASURES HE MINED FOR US. ... BY EVELIA COBOS
