[1]p. 259 The Council of Elrond
`I know little of Iarwain save the name,' said Galdor; `But
Glorfindel, I think, is right. The Power to defy our enemy is not in him,
unless such power is in the earth itself. And yet we see that Sauron can
torture and destroy the very hills. What power still remains lies with us,
is here in Imladris, or with Cirdan at the Havens, or in Lórien. But
have they the strength, have we here the strength to withstand the enemy,
the coming of Sauron at the last, when all else is overthrown?'
`I have not the strength,' said Elrond; `neither have they.'
`Then if the Ring cannot be kept from him for ever by strength,' said
Glorfindel, `two things only remain for us to attempt: to send it over
the Sea, or to destroy it.'
`But Gandalf has revealed to us that we cannot destroy it by any craft
that we here possess,' said Elrond `And they who dwell beyond the Sea
would not receive it: for good or ill it belongs to Middle-earth; it is
for us who still dwell here to deal with it.'
`Then,' said Glorfindel, `let us cast it into the deeps, and so make
the lies of Saruman come true. For it is clear now that even at the
Council his feet were already on a crooked path. He knew that the Ring
was not lost for ever, but wished us to think so; for he began to lust
for it for himself. Yet oft in lies truth is hidden: in the Sea it would
be safe.'
`Not safe for ever,' said Gandalf. `There are many things in the deep
waters; and seas and lands may change. And it is not our part here to take
thought only for a season, or for a few lives of Men, or for a passing age
of the world. We should seek a final end of this menace, even if we do not
hope to make one.'
`And that we shall not find on the roads to the Sea,' said Galdor.
`If the return to Iarwain be thought too dangerous, then flight to the Sea
is now fraught with gravest peril. My heart tells me that Sauron will
expect us to take the western way, when he learns what has befallen. He
soon will. The Nine have been unhorsed indeed but that is but a respite,
ere they find new steeds and swifter. Only the waning might of Gondor
stands now between him and a march in power along the coasts into the
North; and if he comes, assailing the White Towers and the Havens,
hereafter the Elves may have no escape from the lengthening shadows of
Middle-earth.'
`Long yet will that march be delayed,' said Boromir. `Gondor wanes,
you say. But Gondor stands, and even the end of its strength is still
very strong.'
`And yet its vigilance can no longer keep back the Nine,' said Galdor.
`And other roads he may find that Gondor does not guard.'
`Then,' said Erestor, `there are but two courses, as Glorfindel
already has declared: to hide the Ring for ever; or to unmake it. But both
are beyond our power. Who will read this riddle for us?'
`None here can do so,' said Elrond gravely. `At least none can
foretell what will come to pass, if we take this road or that. But it
seems to me now clear which is the road that we must take. The westward
road seems easiest. Therefore it must be shunned. It will be watched.
Too often the Elves have fled that way. Now at this last we must take a
hard road, a road unforeseen. There lies our hope, if hope it be. To walk
into peril--to Mordor. We must send the Ring to the Fire.'
Psalm 1:1 Happy the man who never follows the
advice of the wicked, or loiters on the way that
sinners take, or sits about with scoffers, but
finds his pleasure in the Law of Elohim:, and
murmurs his law day and night. He is like a tree
that is planted by water streams, yielding its
fruit in season, its leaves never fading; success
attends all he does. It is nothing like this with
the wicked, nothing like this! No, these are like
chaff blown away by the wind. The wicked will not
stand firm when Judgement comes, nor sinners when
the virtuous assemble. For Elohim: takes care of
the way the virtuous go, but the way of the wicked
is doomed.
I have followed the advice of the wicked, loitered on the way that sinners take, and sat with scoffers--but
I also meditated on what I could find out about the Law of Elohim:. The virtuous have assembled, and me--a
sinner--cannot stand firm. So I submit myself to Judgement, and find that the Triune Father's justice is
higher than the justice of the wicked, so much greater--SO MUCH GREATER--that the justice of the wicked
insures the fruition of my prayers and dreams!
Matthew 22:34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees
they got together 35 and, to disconcert Him, one of them put a question,
36 `Master, which is the greatest commandment of the law?'
37 Jesus said,
`
You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.
39 The second resembles it: You must love your neighbor as yourself.
40 On these two commandments hang the whole law and the prophets also.
'
Mark 12:28 One of the scribes who had listened to them debating
and had observed how well Jesus had answered them,
now came up and put a question to Him, `Which is the first of all the commandments?'
29 Jesus replied,
`
This is the first: Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord
30 and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.
31 The second is this: You must love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no commandment greater than these.
'
Luke 10:25 There was a lawyer who, to disconcert Him, stood up and said to Him,
`Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?' 26 He said to Him,
`
What is written in the law? What do you read there?
'
27 He replied, `You must love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,
and your neighbor as yourself'. 28
`
You have answered right,
'
said Jesus `
do this and life is yours.
'
Psalm 106:1 Alleluia! Give thanks to Elohim:, for He is good,
His love is everlasting!...3 Happy are we if we exercise justice and
constantly practice virtue! 4 Elohim:, remember me, for the love You
bear your people, come to me as a savior, 5 let me share the happiness
of your chosen, the joys of your nation and take pride in being one of
your heirs. 6 We have sinned quite as much as our fathers, we have
been wicked, we are guilty; 7 our ancestors in Egypt never grasped the
meaning of your marvels...38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of
their sons and daughters, offering them to the idols of Canaan, they
polluted the country with blood. 39 They defiled themselves by such
actions, their behavior was that of a whore. 40 Elohim:'s anger blazed
out at his people, He came to loathe his heirs. 41 He handed them over
to the pagans, those who hated them became their masters; 42 their
enemies tyrannized over them, crushing them under their rule. 43 Time
and again He rescued them, but they went on defying him deliberately
and plunging deeper into wickedness; 44 even so, He took pity on their
distress each time He heard them calling. 45 For their sake, He
remembered His covenant, He relented in His great love, 46 making
their captors mitigate the harshness of their treatment...48 Blessed
be Elohim: the God of Israel, from all eternity and for ever! Here,
all the people are to say, `Amen'
Matthew 15:21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 Then out came a Canaanite woman from the district and started shouting,
`Sir, Son of David, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'
23 But He answered her not a word. And his disciples went and pleaded with Him.
`Give her what she wants,' they said `because she is shouting after us.'
24 He said in reply, `
I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel
'
25 But the woman had come up and was kneeling at his feet.
`
LORD
,' she said `help me.'
26 He replied, `
It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the house-dogs
'
27 She retorted, `Ah yes, Sir; but even house-dogs can eat the scraps
that fall from their master's table'. Then Jesus answered her,
`
Woman, you have great faith, Let your wish be granted.
'
And from that moment her daughter was well again.
Thank you Jesus! THANK YOU JESUS!!
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
one in being with the Father.
Through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
He came down from heaven;
by the power of the Holy Spirit
He was born of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake
He was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord,
the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son He is worshiped
and glorified.
He has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
