May is Mental Health Awareness Month and this year’s theme is “Where to start.” Sometimes, when it comes to taking care of ourselves, identifying that starting point can be the greatest challenge. As we recognize the effects of burnout on the people who power our sector, we share this idea of where to start: Take a five-minute pause, right now. Put down the phone you're reading this newsletter on or turn away from your computer screen. Then close your eyes, take a deep breath, and think of something that brings you calm or joy. It’s ok, we promise we’ll still be here with timely resources when you return.
Ok. Are you back? How do you feel? We hope you see what just a small initial act of taking care of yourself can do. Now that you've gotten started, you can build momentum with more information from the many nonprofits, such as Mental Health America, with more resources for you.
And speaking of resources, in this month’s Nonprofit Essentials, we have tools to help you understand the upcoming changes to overtime rules, a webinar on improvements to federal grantmaking processes, insights on how to increase recurring donors, and more. |
